About

I\'m Axel Van Parijs, a dietitian based in Brussels. My clinical training took place at Erasme Hospital, where I learned the rigour of nutritional care in a hospital setting, before specialising in sports nutrition and earning UCLouvain\'s certification in the field. That path has led me to work with demanding organisations, from the Brussels International Ballet to the Union Academy of Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

My conviction is simple: nutrition deserves to be handled with data, not intuition. Too much dietary advice rests on rough estimates or general rules that account for no one in particular. I would rather measure, understand, then build, and do so with the same standard whatever the goal, because an athlete and someone seeking balance both deserve a serious method. My role isn\'t to impose a framework on you, but to make you autonomous in your own choices.

Services

Support tailored to every need

Performance

Sports nutrition

For athletes, from the committed amateur to the elite competitor. We work on nutrition around training and competition, recovery strategies, nutritional periodisation across the season, managing competition weight and body composition, plus hydration and the role supplements may or may not play. The aim: nutrition becomes a lever for performance rather than something you simply endure.

Rebalancing

Dietary rebalancing

For anyone without a specific medical condition who wants to eat better: losing or gaining weight, building muscle, persistent fatigue, uncomfortable digestion, eating patterns disrupted by a demanding schedule, or simply the wish to rebuild good foundations. Equally suited to periods of transition: menopause, going vegetarian, or a change of professional rhythm.

Medical

Medical follow-up & eating disorders

For people whose nutrition sits within a medical context: cholesterol, hypertension, digestive and intestinal conditions, inflammatory disease, or follow-up after a procedure. I also support people with eating disorders, as part of a multidisciplinary care team. These consultations always take place in coordination with your GP or specialist, complementing and never replacing your medical care.

How it works

A structured method, not a generic plan

Four stages, in this order, for everyone I work with. Understand before measuring, measure before building, build before adjusting. That progression is what separates generic advice from support that actually holds.

01

Anamnesis

A first stage devoted entirely to understanding you: actual eating habits, daily rhythm, training load, medical background, professional and family constraints, and your relationship with food. Nothing is assumed: this precise picture is what makes everything that follows relevant.

02

Body composition analysis

An objective assessment of your body composition, carried out in a dedicated consultation: fat mass, muscle mass, hydration and phase angle, measured by bioimpedance (Biody Xpert 3) and skinfold calipers (Harpenden). Concrete figures that replace eyeball estimates and serve as the baseline against which your progress is measured.

03

Personalised nutrition plan

From that data, I build a plan that genuinely fits you: your calculated energy needs, your tastes, your budget, your schedule and your constraints. Not a generic template adjusted at the margins, but a plan designed for you, and therefore sustainable over time.

04

Follow-up

Regular consultations to reassess your body composition, adjust the plan according to your results and work through the obstacles you meet. Between appointments, structured tracking through a dedicated app helps you stay on course day to day rather than facing difficulties alone.

Frequently asked questions

What to know before your visit

Will my health insurance cover the consultation?

In most cases, at least partly. In Belgium, it is mainly the complementary insurance offered by health insurance funds (mutuelles) that contributes towards dietetic consultations.

Expect roughly €12.50 to €20 reimbursed per session, with an annual ceiling of around €30 to €100 depending on your fund. That ceiling is sometimes raised considerably for serious or chronic conditions, up to €240 a year with some funds. Conversely, the allowance is occasionally shared with other therapies such as osteopathy or acupuncture.

Certain medical situations may also open entitlement through compulsory insurance, on your doctor's prescription. Since the number of sessions covered and the documents required vary between funds, the simplest approach is to check with your own before your appointment.

How do I claim reimbursement?

I provide a care certificate after the consultation. You submit it to your mutuelle, which processes reimbursement according to your cover.

If your situation falls under compulsory insurance coverage, a prescription from your doctor is required. Please bring it to the first appointment.

What should I bring to the first appointment?

Recent blood test results if you have them, a list of any current medication, and your medical prescription where applicable.

If you're an athlete, recent training data (volume, intensity, competition calendar) is useful.

The body composition analysis takes place in a dedicated consultation, separate from the first appointment. I'll explain how to prepare for it nearer the time.

How does the follow-up work?

The first appointment is devoted entirely to taking your full history: it's the longest, and it exists to understand your situation in detail. The body composition analysis has its own dedicated consultation, so it can be given the time it deserves.

Later appointments reassess your measurements, adjust the plan and address any difficulties.

The frequency depends on your situation and goals: we define it together at the first appointment. Between consultations, structured tracking through a dedicated app helps you stay on course.

Do I need a medical prescription to book?

No, you can book freely. A prescription is only needed if you want reimbursement through compulsory insurance, in the cases described above.

Do you consult remotely?

Yes, by video call. Only the body composition analysis requires an in-person visit, since it relies on physical measurements. A mixed format works well: initial assessment on site, follow-ups remotely.

Reimbursement conditions change over time and differ between funds. The information above is indicative: always check with your own mutuelle before your appointment.

"I had my first appointment with Axel and I'm very satisfied. He's a kind, approachable person who really listens. He takes the time to explain things clearly and in detail, which puts you at ease straight away. His professionalism is obvious from the first contact." Verified review, DoctorAnyTime (10/10)
